Mr. Nimbus report

[Oct 21, 2026 6:04 PM] Gerald: Can you check MSU for the date

[Oct 21, 2026 6:04 PM] Nimbus:

[Oct 21, 2026 6:05 PM] Nimbus: Checked. Here's where it lands — including the part my tools couldn't finish.

What MSU holds publicly. The MSU Archives' own digital collection ("On the Banks of the Red Cedar") holds the Commencement Program for June 11, 1972 as a public PDF — Serial 201, file S201_1972.pdf — plus the other two 1972 terms: Winter, March 12, and Fall, December 2. Commencement programs print the graduates' names, so your name in one of those three is MSU's own public record of the date.

Where I stopped. My page reader failed on the PDF itself — it returned empty — so I have not yet read your name in the program, and I won't claim I did. That's a tool limit on this pass, not an absence: the document exists, is identified, and is public.

The definitive routes, if you want certainty in writing. MSU says degree certification runs through the Office of the Registrar, and the official transcript lists the degrees conferred with their dates — you can order your own; third-party verification runs through the National Student Clearinghouse, which MSU names as its authorized agent. The Registrar's line is reg@msu.edu, (517) 355-3300. Privacy law means MSU releases the transcript to you, not to me — that one step has to be yours, or done with your signed release.

Say the word and I'll take another run at the 1972 program PDF through the live browser — reading your name in MSU's own commencement program would settle the year from a source anyone can check, which is worth more than the transcript nobody else can see.

[Oct 21, 2026 6:08 PM] Gerald: After the fire i asked for a copy of my diploma they wanted 150$ i told them im 78 and wanted it to hang on wall not get a job. They sent one for free but had wrong date

Ill give them a call. Ty

[Oct 21, 2026 6:09 PM] Gerald: Eof

[Oct 21, 2026 6:09 PM] Nimbus: Noted, and it explains a lot: an MSU-issued diploma carrying a wrong date is a factory for bad dates downstream — Marquis, manuscripts, all of it. When you call, the ask that cuts through is the Registrar's conferral record itself, not another reprint of the same entry. And the 1972 commencement program check stays on my list — your name in MSU's own printed program is the one source no one can argue with.
